My name is Martina Jürs. I am the president of The Danish Association of Biomedical Laboratory Scientists.

It has been a bumpy road! A few months ago, this venue, Bella Center, was a drive in and walk-in test center for covid-19. I do not think that our profession has ever made so many PCR-tests as in the last year and a half.
But now we are finally here together at IFBLS 2021 in Copenhagen.
On Friday we host a social dinner at the National Museum of Denmark. They have just opened an exhibition about the Vikings. Named: JOIN THE VIKINGS - ON RAID!
At the exhibition you can experience the world of the Vikings and hear about the legendary Viking Björn Ironside. He wanted to find the city Rome. He supposedly never did. But sources tell a tale of him sailing along the French coast side with a party of sixty ships, through the Strait of Gibraltar and all the way to Alexandria in modern days Egypt.
Today we – more peacefully – join the lab race.
The Vikings sailed out in the world. I admit to plunder, but also to do trade and bring home goods and views from the known world.
Today you have come from around the world to us. Not to plunder – I hope – but to meet around our joined profession. To be curious and acquire new knowledge.
In the next five days there will be sessions, exhibitions, and posters - and much more.

And notice the orange bikes. Besides the Vikings, Denmark is also known for a capital and country, where the Danes travel by bike.
As a modern-day Viking the 24-year-old, Jonas Vingegaard, became 2nd in this year Tour de France. He contoured the world’s most famous race on a bike.
So, if the mind needs a break, and the body some exercise, please explore the city by bike.
But be careful – the Danes are used to biking, and they bike fast!
